Ukraine’s Defense Ministry is launching a dedicated artificial intelligence hub aimed at rapidly integrating advanced technologies into the military, officials said, marking a new phase in the country’s push to outpace Russia on the battlefield, according to Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov on March 17.

Fedorov said the new Defense AI Center “A1” will be developed in partnership with the United Kingdom and will focus on accelerating the adoption of AI-driven capabilities across Ukraine’s armed forces.

The center’s specialists will analyze frontline data, anticipate enemy actions, and develop autonomous systems designed to enhance combat effectiveness. Teams will also work on new digital tools to improve command and control on the battlefield.

According to Fedorov, the project is intended as the first step in building a broader network of specialized innovation hubs. Separate teams are expected to be established in the near future to focus on drones, artillery, long-range strike capabilities, and other critical areas of modern warfare.

The goal of these units is to continuously integrate battlefield experience with emerging technologies, reducing the time it takes to move from concept to deployment.

By streamlining development cycles, Ukrainian officials aim to deliver new weapons systems and software solutions directly to frontline units more quickly—seeking to maintain a technological edge in an increasingly data-driven war.

Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine-based defense startup Deftak has introduced a new line of guided munitions for unmanned aerial vehicles, designed to improve strike accuracy through onboard targeting systems.
