Ukraine has begun testing a new domestically developed ballistic missile known as the FP-7, which developers say could strike targets up to 300 kilometers away, according to the co-founder and chief designer of Ukrainian defense company Fire Point in an interview with Channel 24 on March 16.

Fire Point co-founder Denys Shtilerman said the missile has already completed initial flight tests and is now entering a new phase of development.

“We’ve already conducted a flight. Now we’re moving to testing on our ‘dear’ neighbors,” Shtilerman said.

According to the engineer, the FP-7 missile is broadly comparable to the US ATACMS tactical ballistic missile, though it is expected to cost roughly half as much.

The missile’s strike range is similar to ATACMS—up to 300 kilometers, depending on the weight of the warhead. However, Shtilerman noted that the Ukrainian design is less compact than the American system.

The missile is launched from a trailer-based platform, allowing it to operate as a mobile strike system.

Shtilerman said Fire Point manufactures nearly all components of the missile internally, including the engine, guidance systems and flight control electronics. The only component produced externally is the warhead.

According to him, production of the missile has already begun even before the system has completed the official codification process.

The company adopted this approach to prevent production delays once the missile is formally approved for use.

Earlier, Shtilerman stated that the company plans to start flight tests of its FP-9 ballistic missile in early summer 2026.

Engineers are currently completing development of the missile’s engine, which remains one of the final components before testing can begin.

The FP-9 is expected to have a range of about 855 kilometers, with a maximum speed of roughly 2,200 meters per second. The missile is designed to carry a warhead weighing up to 800 kilograms and reach altitudes of up to 70 kilometers during flight.
