Ukraine now manufactures up to 20 self-propelled Bohdana howitzers per month. This was stated by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his address at the Second International Defense Industries Forum in Kyiv on October 1.

“We are producing artillery, our "Bohdana" howitzers, at a rate of 15 units monthly, and sometimes as many as 20,” said Zelenskyy.

The 2S22 Bohdana is a 155 mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer designed and produced in Ukraine. It is mounted on the chassis of the Ukrainian six-wheel-drive KrAZ-6322 truck. The howitzer has a maximum range of 42 km. According to former Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikhov, Bohdana entered full production in January 2023.

Only a few countries worldwide possess their own self-propelled artillery units and have the capability to produce them at such scale. Achieving this volume of production is even more impressive for a country at war.

On September 14, Denmark announced that it funded the production of 18 Bohdanas, which have already been delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This marked the first time an EU country used funds specifically for purchasing military equipment from Ukrainian manufacturers.

On September 29, 2024, Denmark and Ukraine strengthened their defense collaboration by signing an agreement for a total investment of approximately $600 million.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Denmark has been one of the leaders in providing military support for Ukraine, contributing approximately €6.7 billion in military aid to date.
