Ukraine Proposes Temporary UN Governance in Russia, Starting With Vorkuta

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has proposed establishing temporary UN administration in Russia—starting with Vorkuta. The idea was put forward by Ministry Spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi in response to Vladimir Putin’s latest demand for external governance to be imposed on Ukraine.
Counter-offer: temporary UN governance in Russia, starting with Vorkuta. It seems that locals would benefit greatly from any governance other than Putin, who spends billions of dollars on his criminal war against Ukraine. https://t.co/RpCbzs56cB pic.twitter.com/gJSnu7vpvs

“Counter-offer: temporary UN governance in Russia, starting with Vorkuta. It seems that locals would benefit greatly from any governance other than Putin, who spends billions of dollars on his criminal war against Ukraine,” Tykhyi wrote on X, illustrating his counterproposal with a photo of Vorkuta, a Russian town in the Arctic region.
Established in the 1930s as part of the Soviet Gulag system, Vorkuta served as a labor camp, part of the Gulag system, where political prisoners and others were forced to work in coal mines.
Today, Vorkuta is an industrial city known for its mining industry, although its population has significantly declined in recent decades due to the closure of many coal mines and the harsh living conditions in the Arctic region.
Earlier, on the night of March 27, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, while having tea with the crew of the nuclear-powered submarine Arkhangelsk, suggested the possibility of introducing temporary governance in Ukraine under the auspices of the United Nations and several countries to facilitate democratic elections.
