Ukraine Reaffirms Peace Commitment in Paris Talks With US, France, UK, and Germany

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov reported on the outcomes of a series of high-level meetings in Paris with US officials and representatives of the so-called “coalition of the willing ,” he wrote on Facebook on April 17.
The meetings focused on advancing peace efforts and securing a full and unconditional ceasefire in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“Together with the Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, we held several meetings, including bilateral talks with the American delegation, which included Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special representatives of the US President, Steven Witkoff and Keith Kellogg,” Umerov stated.
According to Umerov, the talks centered around Ukraine’s push for a peaceful resolution to the war.
“We reaffirmed that Ukraine seeks a swift end to the war and continues to support the initiative for a full ceasefire — it was this proposal from the US that we agreed to back on March 11 in Jeddah,” he said.
A separate multilateral meeting also took place with France, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
Ukrainian officials met with Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to the French President; Jonathan Powell, national security adviser to the UK Prime Minister; and Jens Plötner, foreign policy adviser to the German Chancellor.

“We agreed that the first step toward sustainable peace must be a full and unconditional ceasefire,” Umerov said.
“We discussed the practical aspects of implementing this stage. The Ukrainian side also emphasized the importance of returning children forcibly taken to Russia, as well as the release of prisoners of war and civilian hostages. We agreed to continue the dialogue and coordinate next steps.”
The Presidential Office of Ukraine confirmed that Umerov, Yermak, and Sybiha took part in the Paris meetings, which included both bilateral and multilateral formats.
Both delegations described the talks as constructive and positive, exploring paths toward a just and lasting peace. They also committed to maintaining regular communication to advance the peace process.
In the multilateral session, the participants exchanged views on implementing a ceasefire and other confidence-building steps. Ukrainian officials underscored the humanitarian dimension of the talks, particularly the return of abducted children and the release of detainees.
The meetings concluded with an agreement to continue diplomatic engagement and coordination as efforts toward a comprehensive peace move forward.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned that over the coming weeks, representatives from the coalition of the willing will meet regularly to discuss the parameters of such a mission.
