Ukraine Reports 117 Frontline Clashes on First Day of Russia’s “Humanitarian Ceasefire”

Ukrainian troops encountered 117 combat engagements along the front line on the first day of Russia’s self-declared “humanitarian ceasefire,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on May 8.
Despite Moscow’s announcement of a ceasefire from May 8 to 11, intense fighting persisted across several regions. The heaviest clashes were recorded in Donetsk region, where Russian forces launched 41 assaults on the Pokrovsk front alone.
Pokrovsk, located approximately 70 kilometers northwest of temporarily occupied Donetsk, remains one of the most active front-line areas, where Russia has concentrated its main offensive efforts since March.
Hostilities also continued near Chasiv Yar, Kupiansk, and Lyman in Donetsk region, while Russian forces carried out attacks around Siversk, Torske, and in Kharkiv region. Border settlements in the Sumy region were struck by shelling and guided bomb attacks.
Earlier, Russian forces launched airstrikes on the Bilopillia community in Ukraine’s Sumy region, despite Moscow’s declared “ceasefire,” Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported. The strikes destroyed one civilian home, while three additional houses and seven auxiliary buildings were damaged, according to the SES.
