On December 30, US President Joe Biden unveiled a new $1.25 billion military assistance package for Ukraine, aimed at enhancing the country’s defense capabilities in Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. The package, which will be drawn from US Department of Defense stocks, includes a range of critical weapons and equipment.

According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, this package reflects a significant effort by the US and its international allies to provide Ukraine with the necessary support to defend itself against Russian aggression. The package, likely to be the last before Biden leaves office in January, will include a variety of munitions and systems vital for Ukraine’s defense, among which are:

  • Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (c-UAS) munitions

  • Air defense munitions

  • Munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS)

  • 155mm and 105mm artillery shells

  • Air-to-ground munitions

  • Javelin anti-tank systems and Swedish AT-4 anti-armor missiles

  • TOW missiles with tube launch, optical guidance, and wire tracking

  • Munitions for crew-served weapons and fragmentation grenades

  • Demolition equipment and munitions

  • Communication equipment, training, software, clothing, and individual gear

  • Spare parts, ancillary equipment, services, training, and transportation

Blinken emphasized that the US and more than 50 allied nations have come together to provide Ukraine with the resources needed to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This package is part of an ongoing series of efforts to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities, further underscoring international solidarity in the face of Russian aggression.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden announced a new $2.5 billion security assistance package for Ukraine, which includes $1.25 billion in military equipment and $1.22 billion under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).
