Ukraine Unveils New MR-5100 Demining Machine at Demine Ukraine Forum
A new demining machine, the MR-5100, was introduced at the Demine Ukraine forum, showcasing a domestic innovation aimed at accelerating mine clearance efforts across the country.
Developed in Kharkiv, the machine represents a year of dedicated engineering and is built on a foundation of modern Ukrainian technology.
The MR-5100 is designed to neutralize various types of mines through destruction or detonation at depths of up to 30 cm. It employs interchangeable tools, including a rotating chain mechanism equipped with hammers or a specialized cutting device.
The vehicle operates at speeds ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 kilometers per hour, depending on soil conditions, and clears a path 2.5 meters wide.
Weighing approximately 17 tons, the MR-5100 is powered by a 320-horsepower engine and consumes 55 liters of fuel per hour. The machine is remote-controlled, with an operator able to manage it from a distance of up to 350 meters.
The machine has already completed factory testing, with certification planned for early 2025. Production is expected to ramp up to three or four units per month shortly thereafter, according to the manufacturer.
The MR-5100 costs approximately €450,000—significantly less than comparable imported models, which can be three times as expensive. Maintenance and repairs are expected to be more cost-effective and faster due to the availability of locally produced components.
The MR-5100 joins the MR-3200, another Kharkiv-developed machine used for preparing soil for demining operations. Both machines are part of a broader national effort to address the extensive contamination of Ukrainian land by unexploded ordnance.
