Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Provides Update on Ukraine-US-Russia Trilateral Talks

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided an update regarding the status of trilateral negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.
The discussions are currently on hold. This delay is attributed to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, which has required the immediate attention of American officials, according to Interfax Ukraine on March 18.

During a recent briefing, Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi explained that the consultations have been rescheduled several times. He clarified that the talks have not been canceled or abandoned but are simply deferred.
He noted that there is no hidden agenda behind this decision and emphasized that the focus of the United States is presently concentrated elsewhere.
"Despite the pause in formal meetings, the teams from each side continue to communicate with one another on a daily basis," stated Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.
The spokesperson mentioned that while working-level contacts remain active, significant progress requires higher-level engagement. He stated that “to advance this process, meetings are needed, ideally a meeting of leaders.”
Tykhyi also pointed out that Russia has not shown a genuine willingness to participate in the diplomatic process at this time.

Last week, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine remains prepared for a new round of negotiations to bring an end to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
However, the specific time and location for such a meeting have not yet been established. This lack of agreement is due to differing positions held by the United States and Russia regarding the logistics of the talks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a scheduled meeting with US representatives regarding trilateral negotiations with Russia was postponed as international partners shifted their focus toward the escalating crisis in Iran.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that Russia was attempting to exploit the instability in the Middle East to create a “second front” against the West, complicating diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
