The Ukrainian Defense Forces have successfully disrupted a Russian offensive operation originally scheduled for March, 2026.
While Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine continues with persistent attacks and ongoing assaults, the current scale of the fighting does not match the original objectives set by the Russian leadership, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on March 16.

Although Russian attacks and assaults remained constant, the intensity and scale of the confrontation failed to meet the strategic goals promised by the Russian command to their political leadership. President Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s strength on the frontline is a collective effort involving military resilience, international diplomacy, and global solidarity.
He expressed deep gratitude to the units operating in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions, as well as the Zaporizhzhia direction, where Ukrainian forces continued to neutralize Russian attempts to reinforce their positions.
The President also met with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko to discuss regional resilience plans.
The Ukrainian government is working to ensure that these plans are backed by necessary financial resources.
Zelenskyy noted that achieving these goals depends significantly on continued cooperation with international partners.
“That is exactly why sanctions against Russia are important. Support packages are important. And European decisions–including the 90 billion euros of support that have already been adopted–must work. Europe’s word must work so that regardless of the diplomatic situation, any challenges in the world, our regions are ready for the next winter exactly as the last winter taught us,” the President added.

By February 2026, Ukrainian forces had reclaimed more territory in a single month than Russia managed to capture, successfully seizing the initiative for the first time since the 2024 Kursk operation.
While Russian forces seized just over 120 square kilometers during that period, Ukraine regained control of 285.6 square kilometers, effectively disrupting the enemy’s plans for a major spring-summer campaign.
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi confirmed that these offensive actions helped liberate almost the entire Dnipropetrovsk region and halted Russian advances toward Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia.
