Masked Intruder Seen at Polish Drone Plant Supplying Ukraine Before Fire Breaks Out

A fire broke out overnight at a WB Electronics facility in Skarżysko-Kamienna, Poland, which produces components for unmanned systems used by the Polish and Ukrainian militaries, with authorities investigating possible arson after surveillance footage reportedly showed a masked person entering the site.

According to Onet on August 31, the fire started at around 12:23 a.m. on August 31 in a production building at the facility. Shortly afterward, a security operator alerted police after an intrusion sensor was triggered on the premises.

Surveillance cameras recorded an unidentified person wearing a balaclava entering the WB Electronics site by crossing the perimeter fence, Onet reported. A backpack and a sweatshirt were later found near the facility.

Police officers, a search dog team, and a drone equipped with thermal imaging technology were deployed to the area. Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) and Military Counterintelligence Service were also notified and became involved in the response.

Authorities have not determined the cause of the fire and are considering arson among the possible scenarios. “We are treating this matter extremely seriously,” a spokesperson for Poland’s intelligence services coordinator said, according to Onet.

Five firefighting crews responded to the incident and extinguished the blaze. The facility was not operating when the fire began, and no injuries were reported. The affected site produces pump systems used in unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned ground platforms.

WB Electronics is the core company of WB Group, Poland’s largest privately owned defense group. The company develops and manufactures several unmanned systems, including the FlyEye and FT-5 reconnaissance drones as well as the Warmate and Gladius strike systems.

WB Group systems have been supplied to both Poland and Ukraine, with FlyEye reconnaissance drones and Warmate loitering munitions among the company’s platforms used by Ukrainian forces.

Poland has been strengthening its defenses amid concerns over potential Russian provocations. On August 17, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk said Warsaw was preparing for the possibility of war and warned that a large-scale Kremlin provocation could occur “within a few months.”
