Ukraine’s Air Force has begun using French-supplied Mirage 2000 fighter jets to conduct airstrikes against Russian positions, marking a significant expansion of the aircraft’s combat role since their delivery, according to the Telegram channel Sonyashnyk linked to the Ukrainian Air Forces on February 27.

Footage shows a Mirage 2000 releasing two precision-guided AASM Hammer aerial bombs over a frontline sector, providing the first publicly available video evidence of the aircraft striking ground targets in Ukrainian service.

“Thank you to France for its unwavering support of our military, as well as for high-quality and modern weapons,” the channel wrote in a post accompanying the video.

Until now, Ukrainian officials had indicated that Mirage 2000 fighters were primarily being used for air defense missions, including intercepting Russian cruise missiles and drones. The newly released footage suggests the aircraft are now being integrated into offensive strike operations as well.

France has supplied Mirage 2000 fighters to Ukraine as part of its ongoing military assistance program. Kyiv is expected to receive two additional aircraft by the end of the first quarter of 2026, supplementing three jets delivered last year.

One aircraft was reportedly lost during the summer, meaning Ukraine is expected to operate at least four Mirage 2000 fighters by the end of 2026.

The transfer of additional aircraft has been accompanied by expanded training programs for both Ukrainian pilots and ground crews, aimed at accelerating operational readiness and expanding mission capabilities.

In Ukrainian service, the Mirage 2000 has already been equipped with French air-to-air missiles, including the MICA and Magic-2, used to counter Russian aerial threats.

The development underscores Ukraine’s gradual transition toward a more versatile Western-equipped air force capable of conducting both defensive interception missions and precision strikes along the front line.

Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine was set to receive two Mirage 2000 fighter jets from France by the end of the first quarter of 2026 as part of a military assistance package.
