Ukraine’s General Staff has revealed the frontline in Sumy region, highlighting areas of Russian advancement. A map published on July 1 shows the territory occupied by Russian forces and the directions of their movement.

Ukrainian defenders have successfully stopped Russian forces from advancing along the line stretching from Yunakivka through Yablunivka, Novomykolaivka, Oleksiivka, and Kindrativka, reaching the Russian border and a forward staging area in Russia’s Glushkovo district of Kursk region.

The latest map no longer includes the blue markings near Sudzha, which previously indicated Ukrainian control in that area.

According to Ukraine’s General Staff, Ukrainian operations in this sector—and more broadly in the Kursk direction—have pinned down a Russian troop grouping of approximately 50,000 soldiers. These forces, the statement said, have been unable to redeploy to more critical fronts, including Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka.

Russia has deployed some of its most capable units to the Sumy axis, including naval infantry, airborne assault brigades, and elite motorized rifle troops. The offensive is also supported by long-range artillery, combat aviation, and attack drones.

Since early May, the security situation in Sumy region has significantly worsened. Russia has been striking not only the border zone but also deeper into the region. Over the past month, more than 52,000 people have been evacuated.
