Ukrainian Team has taken third place in the overall standings at this year’s World Games, winning a total of 44 medals.

The news was announced by the Sports Committee of Ukraine on August 18.

Ukrainian athletes earned 16 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals. Only Germany (45 medals, including 17 gold) and China (64 medals, including 36 gold) placed higher.

The most successful day for the Ukrainian team came on August 10, when athletes secured 12 medals in a single day.

Ukrainian sambo wrestlers Andrii Kucherenko, Vladyslav Rudniev, and Petro Davydenko also stood out. In the finals, each defeated his Russian opponent competing under neutral status before.

Karateka Anzhelika Terliuga, ranked first in the world in the -55 kg category, claimed a silver medal. The achievement carries special meaning, as Terliuga welcomed a daughter in December 2024—making this her first medal as a mother.

Another Ukrainian karateka, Rizvan Talibov from Chernivtsi, claimed a gold medal at the 2025 World Games in China. Despite competing with a broken arm, he triumphed over his Croatian opponent in the final bout.

Earlier, the Ukrainian delegation was initially blocked from entering the stadium during the opening ceremony of the World Games—an international event showcasing non-Olympic sports.

Organizers objected to the jackets worn by Ukraine’s female athletes, arguing that their design resembled the Ukrainian national flag.
