Ukraine Climbs to 4th Place at 2025 World Games With 23 Medals, Including 8 Gold

Ukraine ranks fourth in the medal standings at the 12th World Games, which are currently underway in Chengdu, China, the event’s official website reported on August 11.
As of August 11, with nearly half of the competitions completed (120 out of 256 events), the Ukrainian team has won 8 gold, 9 silver, and 6 bronze medals. By total medal count, Ukraine is among the top four nations, trailing only China (20 medals, including 14 gold), Germany (30 medals, including 13 gold), and Italy (36 medals, including 8 gold).
In the first two days of competition, Ukrainian athletes won two gold and two silver medals in sports acrobatics and karate. August 10 proved to be the team’s most successful day, bringing in 12 medals: 5 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze.
In dragon boat racing, Ukraine claimed gold in K-8 (500 m, open category) and K-10 (2000 m, mixed category), silver in K-10 (500 m, mixed category), and bronze in K-10 (200 m, mixed category).

In jiu-jitsu, Bohdan Mochulskyi won gold in the 62 kg men’s fighting category, while in Muay Thai boxing, Dmytro Shelesko took gold in the 57 kg men’s category.
In underwater sports, Sofiia Hrechko won gold in the women’s 200 m finswimming, Oleksii Zakharov took silver in the men’s 400 m finswimming, the men’s 4×50 m finswimming relay team (Smishchenko, Kuzmenko, Yelisieiev, Zakharov) earned silver, and the women’s 4×100 m finswimming relay team (Hrechyikhina, Hrechko, Uvarova, Makarenko) won bronze.
In sports acrobatics, the men’s group (Kukurudz, Push, Savka, Yarush) secured silver, and in water skiing, Sofiia Sokolova claimed silver in the wake surfing final.
On August 11, Ukrainians continued to compete in jiu-jitsu, wushu, and underwater sports. That day alone, in finswimming, they won 7 more medals: 1 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze.
Earlier, Ukrainian karateka and 2020 Olympic silver medalist Anzhelika Terliuga secured silver in the under-55 kg category at the 2025 World Games.
The 2022 World Games champion made her comeback to competition in May after a year-long break, following the birth of her first child in December 2024.
