Ukrainian Biathletes Secure Six More Medals at Winter Paralympics in Italy

Ukrainian biathletes have earned six additional medals at this year's Paralympic Games in Italy.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine confirmed the recent achievements of the national team on March 13.

Taras Rad secured a silver medal in the men’s sitting sprint pursuit. Finishing with a time of 10:00.5, Rad placed second behind Kazakhstan’s Yerbol Khamitov. This marks the third podium finish for Rad during these games, following his previous gold in the sprint and bronze in the individual race.
Other Ukrainian competitors in the same event included Vasyl Kravchuk, who finished eighth, and Hryhoriy Shymko, who took ninth. Pavlo Bal and Oleksandr Aleksyk finished in 12th and 13th place, respectively.
In the men’s standing category, 37-year-old Liubomyr Vovchynskyi earned a silver medal in the sprint pursuit. Competing in his fifth career Paralympics, Vovchynskyi finished with a time of 10:33.6, missing the gold by only 0.2 seconds after being overtaken by China’s Cai Jiayun in the final meters.
Ukrainian women also reached the podium in the standing class events. Iryna Bui took the silver medal with a time of 12:35.7, while Oleksandra Kononova earned bronze, finishing in 12:49.0. The race was won by Natalie Wilkie of Canada.
Further success came in the sprint pursuit for athletes with vision impairments. Oleksandr Kazik and Anatolii Kovalevskyi secured silver and bronze medals, respectively, adding to the team's total count.

Ukraine is represented by 35 participants at these games, including 25 Paralympic athletes and 10 guides. Since the start of the competition, the Ukrainian team has won a total of 16 medals, consisting of three gold, six silver, and seven bronze.
On the first day of the Games, Ukraine’s Paralympic team moved to the top of the medal standings after winning six medals in biathlon events.
According to the National Sports Committee for the Disabled of Ukraine, Ukrainian athletes secured three gold medals, one silver, and two bronze during the opening competitions on March 7.
This performance placed the country first overall after the first day of the Games, ahead of China and Austria.
