According to the 47th Brigade, the Russian soldiers advanced approximately 26 kilometers through a gas pipeline before attempting to move across open terrain and forested areas toward Ukrainian positions on the North-Slobozhanskyi axis.

The unit said the group attempted to seize Ukrainian positions but was instead detected and engaged by drone operators.

The brigade reported that Ukrainian forces used a combination of reconnaissance and strike drones, including heavy bomber-type UAVs, to target the advancing group. As the situation developed, drone operators deployed smoke screens to force the Russian soldiers out of their shelter while minimizing risk to Ukrainian personnel.

“Our fighters had the task of securing the forest belt to prevent the enemy from reaching the settlement we are defending,” one Ukrainian servicemember from the brigade said.

Following the drone pressure and smoke deployment, four Russian soldiers exited their position and surrendered with raised hands, according to the brigade. The captured individuals were taken into custody and added to Ukraine’s exchange pool.

The brigade also provided background details on the detainees, stating that one of the captured soldiers claimed he had joined the military due to financial obligations, including unpaid alimony of 800,000 rubles, while others had previously been convicted and signed contracts with the Russian military in exchange for release from prison.

According to Ukrainian defense company DevDroid, a separate incident in the Lyman direction demonstrated similar tactics using unmanned ground systems, where a Droid TW-7.62 robotic platform operated by Ukraine’s 3rd Separate Assault Brigade forced three Russian soldiers to surrender without direct contact, guiding them under remote control until they were taken into custody.

Earlier, according to Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, more than 100 Russian soldiers surrendered during the winter of 2026 after encounters with Ukrainian drone units, with UAV operators monitoring and guiding them toward Ukrainian positions until they were taken into custody.
