Ukrainian Forces Already Targeted Buildings Reportedly Stationing North Korean Troops in Kursk Region
Ukrainian forces have reportedly already targeted buildings in the Russian region of Kursk where North Korean troops are believed to be stationed, Spanish newspaper EL PAÍS reported, citing a member of the Ukrainian State Border Guard, on October 26.
“The Kremlin has agreed with the North Korean regime that its troops will reinforce the liberation of Kursk to avoid transferring part of the Russian soldiers stationed in the invasion in the eastern part of Ukrainian territory. This eventual entry into combat for the first time of North Korean forces on the Russian side strengthens Moscow in the war against Ukraine,” writes to EL PAÍS.
In October, the Russian parliament ratified a defense cooperation treaty that was established by Russian leader Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un last June. This agreement commits both countries to provide military support to each other in the event of an invasion by foreign powers. Since then, Moscow has received millions of tons of artillery ammunition from North Korea, according to EL PAÍS.
On October 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy referenced intelligence reports indicating North Korea’s de facto involvement in the ongoing war, after reports had emerged indicating that more than 20 soldiers were killed near Donetsk due to a missile strike on October 3, including six North Korean officers.
