Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and Special Operations Forces announced today that they destroyed two Russian SU-34 fighter-bombers and damaged two more during a joint long-range drone strike on the Marynivka airfield in Russia’s Volgograd region.

In a official statement released on June 27, Ukrainian forces said the operation also caused a fire at the airfield’s technical and operational zone—a key facility used for aircraft maintenance and flight preparation.

“These multi-role fighter-bombers are actively used by the enemy along the front line, including for deploying guided aerial bombs,” the Special Operations Forces said.

According to Ukrainian defense sources, the strike targeted military infrastructure deep inside Russian territory, aimed at weakening Russia’s ability to conduct airstrikes on Ukrainian positions.

“We continue working with our brothers-in-arms to weaken the aviation component of the Russian army,” the statement added. “Military airfields and aircraft located deep in enemy territory are absolutely legitimate targets for Ukraine.”

The SU-34 is frequently used by Russia to launch heavy bomb attacks, particularly with KABs (guided aerial bombs), across frontline areas in Ukraine. The Ukrainian military has intensified efforts to hit military assets in Russia’s rear with drones and sabotage operations.

On the same day, it was reported that operators of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces destroyed a North Korean M1991 240 mm multiple-launch rocket system near Novopavlivka in Donetsk region, executing a precision UAV strike to detonate the launcher’s rockets.
