The statement reads: “Soldiers of the 28th Brigade have destroyed an enemy Su-25. Another Russian attack aircraft has been eliminated on the Toretsk front thanks to our air defense forces.”
The brigade later released a video of the downing, confirming that the aircraft was shot down using the Igla man-portable air-defense system.
This marks the first reported downing of a Russian Su-25 in several months.
Earlier, on September 11, Ukrainian special forces destroyed a Russian Su-30SM fighter jet in a covert operation over the Black Sea, according to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense.
The aircraft, belonging to the 43rd Separate Naval Aviation Regiment in Crimea, was downed using a man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS). Russian forces later located the wreckage approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Cape Tarkhankut.
