Ukrainian pilots from the 1st Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces destroyed two key components of a Russian S-300V air defense system overnight on March 1 near temporarily occupied southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol. According to Unmanned Systems Forces Commander Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, the strike took out a 9S15 “Imbir” radar station and a 9A84 launcher-loader.

The 9S15 “Imbir” is a high-technology, three-coordinate self-propelled radar designed to detect cruise missiles and aerodynamic targets at distances of up to 175 kilometers. It forms part of the S-300V surface-to-air missile system. Around 200 units were reportedly produced, making it a relatively rare and high-value component of Russia’s air defense network.

The 9A84 launcher-loader is a mobile element of the S-300V system, capable of supporting operations at ranges of up to 250 kilometers and depths of up to 100 kilometers. It is considered a key operational component of the system used by Russian forces, Magyar wrote.

The strike was carried out using Ukrainian-made FP-2 drones equipped with a 100-kilogram warhead, in coordination with the newly established Deep Strike Coordination Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces.

Earlier, Ukrainian forces had destroyed a Russian S-300V air defense and missile defense launcher in Zaporizhzhia region.

The system was struck deep behind enemy lines overnight, using a drone—likely a bomber UAV—to drop one or more munitions on the launcher, though the exact type of drone was not disclosed.

After the strike, Ukrainian operators captured footage of the burning Russian system, confirming the direct hit and severe fire damage on occupied territory.

Footage shows intense flames on the launcher, with Russian personnel seen moving around the site. The S-300V system is likely beyond repair.
