Olympic champion in athletics and former President of Ukraine's National Olympic Committee Serhii Bubka will carry the Olympic flame ahead of the 2024 Games' opening ceremony, as reported by France 24.

On Friday, July 26, the Olympic flame will pass through Saint-Denis before proceeding through the Olympic village and the Stade de France arena. Joining Bubka, the ceremony will feature American performer Snoop Dogg and French actress Laetitia Casta, among others.

The official opening of the 2024 Olympics will also take place on the same day. For the first time in history, the ceremony will be held outside a stadium — on the Seine River, with each delegation represented on separate boats.

In 1996, Bubka became the first flag bearer for independent Ukraine at the Summer Games. From 2006 to 2022, he regularly participated in Olympic opening ceremonies as the head of the National Olympic Committee.
