Ukrainian Polar Researchers Name Weddell Seal Pup in Honor of Ukrainian Marine Drone

Ukrainian polar researchers have named the first Weddell seal pup born this year SeaBaby Sviatozarovych.

The pup was named after a Ukrainian marine drone, with the name suggested by a commenter. His patronymic, Sviatozarovych, comes from the biologist who discovered him, Sviatozar Davydenko.

At 10 days old, SeaBaby is growing quickly and will soon be ready to explore the ocean, reports Ukrainian National Antarctic Scientific Center.

The Sea Baby is a Ukrainian naval drone, engineered for maritime warfare with a focus on targeting enemy naval assets. It is a key component of Ukraine's innovative approach to strengthening its defense capabilities against Russian naval forces, particularly in the Black Sea, where control of the waters is a critical factor in the ongoing war.
