Ukrainian Security Service Detains Russian Spy Posing as Cleaner in Donetsk Region

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a 54-year-old woman in the Donetsk region who was spying for Russia. The suspect, a resident of the frontline town of Druzhkivka, had been recruited by Russian intelligence to gather information about Ukrainian soldiers.
According to the SBU on October 28, the woman posed as a cleaner, posting ads in local Telegram channels offering housekeeping services. This allowed her to legally access apartments rented by Ukrainian servicemen returning from the front line. While pretending to clean, she secretly photographed military documents and personal belongings.
The agent also attempted to gain the soldiers’ trust, subtly asking about their combat positions and missions. She then sent the collected intelligence to Russia via a specially created chatbot.

Investigators believe the personal data and addresses she provided were used by Russian forces to plan combat and recruitment operations. During a search, officers seized her smartphone, which she used to transmit information to Russian intelligence.
The woman is currently in custody without the right to bail. She faces a life sentence with confiscation of property.
Earlier, Polish prosecutors filed formal espionage charges against a Russian husband and wife. Additionally, one of the spouses is also facing charges for allegedly planning to send an explosive device using a courier service.
