Ukrainian SOF Hit Russian FSB Coast Guard Patrol Ship in Drone Strike

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) reportedly carried out a successful drone strike on a Russian FSB Coast Guard patrol vessel of the Project 22460 class, Militarniy reported on December 19.
A still image from the drone’s final approach was published on the SOF’s official Telegram channel.
No further details regarding the exact location, extent of the damage, or the specific vessel targeted were provided by Ukrainian military officials.
Project 22460 “Okhotnik” ships are relatively modern patrol vessels commissioned by the Russian FSB Coast Guard since 2007. They are built at the “Almaz” shipyard in St. Petersburg and the “Vostochnaya Verf” in Vladivostok.

Militarnyi highlights that Russia currently operates six Project 22460 patrol vessels in the Black Sea, including the Rubin (350), Zhemchug (352), Izumrud (354), Ametist (355), Provornyy (406), and Bezuprechnyy (351).
These ships form a core element of the FSB Coast Guard’s regional maritime capabilities and have played active roles in hybrid operations against Ukraine.
These vessels are designed for extended sea operations and can perform a wide range of maritime tasks. In the context of Russia’s hybrid aggression against Ukraine, Project 22460 ships have been actively involved, including in operations protecting illegal sand dredging in the Karkinit Bay before the full-scale invasion in 2022.

Earlier, it was reported that the SBU announced that, together with the Ukrainian Navy, it had carried out a unique operation: for the first time in history, an underwater drone—Sub Sea Baby—struck a Russian submarine.
