A Ukrainian National Guard serviceman successfully neutralized a Russian T-72B3 tank using the FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile system. The incident took place on the Pokrovske front.

According to Commander of the National Guard Oleksandr Pivnenko, the serviceman from the 15th “Kara-Dag” Brigade precisely struck the tank, demonstrating the effectiveness of the US-made Javelin system in combat.

The Javelin is a man-portable, third-generation anti-tank missile system developed by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. It is equipped with an infrared guidance system, allowing the operator to launch the missile and not require further guidance as it tracks and strikes its target. The system offers two attack modes: a top-down attack for targeting the less-protected upper sections of armored vehicles, and a direct attack for other targets.

The Javelin has proven effective against armored vehicles, fortifications, and low-flying aircraft, such as helicopters and UAVs. Introduced into service in 1996, the Javelin has been deployed in multiple conflict zones, including Iraq, and has been part of Ukraine’s defense arsenal since 2018.

This latest successful strike highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Russian forces, who continue to suffer equipment losses, including tanks and other military assets, across various combat zones.
