Ukrainian Wrestler Zhan Beleniuk Advances to Semifinals of the 2024 Olympics
Zhan Beleniuk, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion and current Ukrainian parliament member, has secured a place in the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics in Greco-Roman wrestling, weight class up to 87 kg. In the quarterfinals, Beleniuk defeated Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Tursinov with a score of 7-3.
Beleniuk is set to compete in the semifinals today, August 7, where he will face Ali Reza Mohammadi Piani.
This Olympics represents Beleniuk’s final opportunity for another medal, as he has announced plans to retire from sports after the Paris Games. His Olympic achievements include a gold medal from Tokyo 2020 and a silver medal from Rio de Janeiro 2016.
In addition, Parviz Nasibov advanced to the semifinals in Greco-Roman wrestling, weight class up to 67 kg. He won his quarterfinal match against Kyrgyzstan’s Amanat Ismailov with a score of 7-6, coming back from a 2-6 deficit. Nasibov’s semifinal will also take place today.
