European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell confirmed that the US allowed Ukraine to conduct strikes up to 300 kilometers into Russian territory and revealed that this decision was a key topic during an EU foreign ministers' meeting, Borrell wrote on X on November 18.

At a press conference, Borrell was asked to clarify why US President Joe Biden approved this decision now, especially following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.

Borrell explained, “The Biden administration has authorized Ukraine to use missiles capable of striking targets within a 300-kilometer radius on Russian territory. It’s not an extensive range, but it’s their decision.”

He added that this issue had been discussed earlier within the EU, though he was uncertain about the timing of Washington’s decision.

While the topic was debated among EU foreign ministers, Borrell emphasized that no unanimous EU policy was established to lift restrictions on strikes inside Russia.

“Each country will decide this matter independently,” he stated.

Earlier, Borrell called on the EU to back Ukraine’s right to strike deep inside Russia.
