House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner urged the US to consider “direct military action” if North Korean troops enter Ukrainian territory, reported The Hill on October 24.

“The Biden-Harris Administration must make clear that North Korean troops entering this war are a red line for the United States,” Turner said in a statement.

He added, “If North Korean troops were to invade Ukraine’s sovereign territory, the United States needs to seriously consider taking direct military action against the North Korean troops.”

His comments follow news that thousands of North Korean soldiers are currently in Russia and undergoing combat training.

With The White House confirming that approximately 3,000 North Korean troops are stationed at military bases in eastern Russia, sparking concerns that they could soon be deployed to Ukraine to fight alongside Russian forces.

The presence of North Korean forces in Russia raises the stakes in the ongoing war and could push Washington into considering military involvement, depending on North Korea’s next moves.

Earlier, US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby warned that these troops would be considered “legitimate military targets” for Ukraine.
