“Victory for Victoria”: PACE Commemorates War Journalists in Honor of Viktoriia Roshchyna

On September 30, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) launched a new annual initiative to honor war correspondents and journalists, titled “Victory for Victoria.”
The campaign is named in memory of Ukrainian journalist Viktoriia Roshchyna, who tragically died in Russian captivity.
PACE approved the initiative alongside a forthcoming resolution calling for the release of Ukrainian journalists held captive by Russia. The resolution will be presented during the upcoming autumn session of the Assembly.

“Every year, dozens of journalists are killed, imprisoned, or forcibly disappeared in war zones. The annual commemoration organized by the ‘Victory for Victoria’ initiative honors war correspondents and journalists who risk—and often lose—their lives while carrying out their work, defending the right to information and truth in war zones,” said Yevheniia Kravchuk, Ukrainian Member of Parliament and member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE.
“Victory for Victoria” is part of the Council of Europe’s broader “Journalists Matter” campaign, which advocates for stronger protection of journalists and calls for an end to impunity for crimes committed against them.
Earlier, Roshchyna was posthumously honored with the Oxi Courage Award in the United States.
