Video Shows Massive Explosions After Drones Strike Russian Ammunition Depot
On the night of September 18, drones struck a military unit in Russia’s Tver region, igniting fires and causing ammunition warehouses to explode.
NASA’s fire map reveals that the fire has engulfed a significant portion of the settlement.
The destroyed stockpile is estimated to hold up to 30,000 tons of various ammunition, including Grad anti-aircraft missile system shells, making it possibly the largest munitions depot hit since the war began. The 107th GRAU arsenal, covering around 7.76 km², is reportedly one of the largest military storage facilities.
The destruction of these munitions will impact the Russian military’s Northern operational group, which supplies forces in Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod. The munitions had been transported westward by Russian Railways to Belarus, before being sent back into Russia and unloaded in Kursk and Belgorod.
Authorities have ordered the evacuation of residents as the Russian army deals with the aftermath of the drone attack on a military unit in Toropets, Tver region.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claims it shot down 54 Ukrainian drones overnight. According to their statement, 27 were intercepted over Kursk, 16 over Bryansk, 7 over Smolensk, 3 over Belgorod, and 1 over Orlov. However, no mention was made of the Tver region, where the ammunition warehouses have been burning since the strike.
The Western allies are moving closer to allowing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike targets inside Russia with long-range missiles. Among the potential targets are dozens of military airfields.
