A severely wounded Russian soldier has allegedly been sent back to the frontlines without the medical leave necessary for critical surgery, Russian media Astra reported, citing Anastasia, the wife of serviceman Denis Ch., on October 31.

“If he doesn’t get the operation, he will never use that hand again,” according to his wife.

Denis, who had spent the last two months in the basement of Military Unit 41698 (5th Brigade) in the Petrovsky District of Donetsk, informed his wife in a final message on October 28 that he was being forced to join a new assault.

According to Anastasia, this was the third time her husband had been deployed against his will despite needing urgent medical attention.

In August, Denis sustained multiple shrapnel wounds and was diagnosed in a hospital with post-traumatic neuropathy of the right ulnar nerve, impacting motor-sensory function.

He was recommended a 30-day medical leave but was instead returned to his unit with a cast.

“They removed his cast, but his hand remained numb, and he couldn’t feel his fingers,” Anastasia reported.

According to his wife, Denys tried to flee from the unit to seek medical care but was detained and kept in the basement with other soldiers in similar medical need.

Reports suggest that the 5th Brigade allegedly manages several detention sites in Donetsk where military personnel are held.

One of the facilities has been referred to as a “concentration camp” on the grounds of an abandoned mine, where US-born Russian “war correspondent” Russell “Texas” Bentley was tortured and killed earlier.

Earlier, British Intelligence report showed that in September 2024, Russia faced record-high casualties in Ukraine, with an average of 1,271 troops killed or wounded daily.
