European leaders rejected recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a dictator and questioned his democratic legitimacy.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz condemned Trump’s statement as “wrong and dangerous,” stressing that Ukraine’s decision to postpone elections amid war is in line with its Constitution and electoral laws.

“Denying Zelenskyy’s legitimacy ignores the realities of leading a country under invasion,” Scholz said.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre also criticized Trump’s statement, calling it “deeply unfair.” Speaking to NRK, he added: “I think this claim is entirely unfounded. Zelenskyy was democratically elected with an overwhelming majority, and the full-scale war caught him in the middle of his term.”

Czech President Petr Pavel also pushed back against Trump’s remarks, questioning the feasibility of elections under such conditions.

“What would be the value of elections in a country that has been resisting aggression from a nuclear-armed neighbor for three years? How can elections be held when a fifth of the territory is occupied, and the entire nation is under daily bombardment? Calling the president of such a country a dictator requires an incredible level of cynicism,” Pavel stated.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb also reaffirmed his support for Ukraine’s Constitution and its democratically elected leader.

“We must convince the United States that Ukraine cannot lose this war,” Stubb emphasized.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen endorsed Zelenskyy’s leadership, highlighting his resilience as Ukraine continues to battle Russian aggression.

"Zelenskyy is a democratically elected and extraordinarily capable political leader in Europe, who for almost three years has done something that I don't think anyone else could do: stood up not only for his own country and put his own life at risk, but every single day also fought for Europe's peace, freedom, and security, and thus also for the Americans," she stated.

Amid the wave of support around the world, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took to X to express gratitude.

Earlier, France expressed confusion over U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments blaming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for Russia’s invasion and the ongoing three-year war, according to Reuters.
