US President Donald Trump stated that negotiations between the United States and Russia over a potential 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine have included discussions on territorial issues and a major power facility, likely the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
He made these remarks during a press briefing on March 13. The Zaporizhzhia plant, the largest nuclear facility in Europe, has been under Russian control since March 2022, heightening concerns over nuclear safety and regional energy security.
The talks also focused on land-related matters and the status of the plant, underscoring the broader challenges in reaching a comprehensive ceasefire agreement.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said that while Ukraine’s presence in Russia’s Kursk region was discussed in broader negotiations, the US did not request Ukrainian forces to withdraw before a ceasefire.
