Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump ahead of Trump’s announced May 19 call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, according to a source cited by the national telethon.
According to the source, Zelenskyy and Trump agreed to speak again after Trump’s discussion with the Russian leader.
Trump has announced plans to speak with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on May 19, followed by separate calls with Zelenskyy and key NATO allies.
Trump said the call with Putin is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Washington time (5:00 p.m. Kyiv time) and will focus on efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Previously, US Vice President JD Vance has suggested that the United States may eventually reconsider its role in supporting Ukraine if Russia continues to avoid meaningful engagement in peace negotiations.
