Zelenskyy Announces Export of Surplus Weapons to Fund Ukraine’s Military Production

Ukraine plans to export certain types of domestically produced weapons to generate additional funds for the production of more critical weaponry for strikes against Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced these agreements in his evening address on September 29.
He stated that arrangements have already been made with several countries for the controlled export of weapons.
“We are also working on controlled exports of our weapons—certain types that are in surplus and can indeed bring Ukraine additional funds to produce the more scarce items that are urgently needed on the front lines right now. These weapons have also proven highly effective in strikes deep within Russian territory,” Zelenskyy said.

The President added that agreements have been reached with four key export markets: the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Zelenskyy first mentioned plans for limited exports of certain types of weaponry on September 19. He explained that Ukraine is capable of producing weapons in quantities far exceeding its own defense needs. Some types of weaponry are already in surplus compared to actual demand, including maritime drones, anti-tank weapons, and “several other types.”
Previously, it was reported that Ukrainian-made interceptor drones will serve as the foundation of Europe’s planned “drone wall” designed to protect NATO’s eastern borders, according to The Telegraph on September 28.
