Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his support on January 26 for the ongoing protests in Slovakia, where tens of thousands of people have gathered to oppose the pro-Russia policies of Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Zelenskyy emphasized Slovakia’s European identity and its distinction from Russian influence.

"Bratislava nie je Moskva. Slovensko je Európa," Zelenskyy said, meaning, "Bratislava is not Moscow. Slovakia is Europe."

Zelenskyy also shared his support for the protesters by reposting a photo from Slovak environmentalist and activist Juraj Rizman. The post read: "Slovakia is Europe! Civic protest against the government of Robert Fico and against cooperation with Putin's Russia. Freedom Square, Bratislava, Slovakia, 24.1.2025."

The protests, which were held in 28 locations across the country on Friday, have more than doubled in size compared to two weeks ago.

On January 24, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico reported what he described as a cyberattack targeting the country’s national insurance company and pointed to Ukraine as being involved.
