Zelenskyy Meets Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon During First Official Visit to Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, marking the royal’s first visit to Ukraine.
The meeting was reported by the Office of the President on May 20.
The Crown Prince decided to start his trip with a symbolic stop at a military medical rehabilitation center in Irpin, underscoring Norway’s support for those affected by Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“The Crown Prince began his first visit to Ukraine by visiting a rehabilitation center in Irpin. I am grateful for this meaningful gesture of attention and support for our people,” Zelenskyy wrote on X following the meeting.
The leaders discussed Norway’s continued support for Ukraine, including the government’s decision to nearly triple its aid package for 2024. Zelenskyy also highlighted Norway’s $450 million commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s energy security and supporting natural gas procurement.

Talks extended to strengthening cooperation in the defense sector, with a focus on investment in Ukraine’s defense industry. The meeting also touched on expanding cultural ties between the two countries.
Earlier, traveling overnight by train, Norway’s Crown Prince Regent Haakon arrived in Ukraine at a station near Kyiv, accompanied by Norway’s Minister of Energy, Terje Aasland.
He was greeted by Norway’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Helene Sand Andresen, and a Ukrainian delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mishchenko.
