Zelenskyy Meets US Envoy Kellogg to Discuss Defense Aid, Russia, and Abducted Ukrainian Children

On August 25, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Keith Kellogg, Special Representative of the US President for Ukraine, addressing the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia, security and defense cooperation, and ways to maintain pressure on Russia.
“Good meeting with the Special Representative of the US President, General Keith Kellogg,” Zelenskyy said. “Ukraine is extremely grateful to the United States for its support, and we value that President Trump is so determined to achieve real peace.”
On military cooperation, he added: “For Ukraine and the US, military cooperation is very important. There are two strong opportunities—an agreement on arms purchases and an agreement on drones, which could significantly strengthen our arsenals.”
Zelenskyy also highlighted ongoing work within the PURL mechanism to procure US equipment with partner funding and involve additional countries.
Reflecting on the recent Washington summit with European officials, Zelenskyy said: “It was a successful summit, a demonstration of true unity between Europe and America. Ukraine, as always, unites the world.”

On Russia, he emphasized: “We discussed how we can influence the Russians, force them into real negotiations, and end the war. Sanctions and tariffs must remain on the agenda. We are ready to speak at the leaders’ level, and now the same readiness is required in Moscow.”
Regarding the humanitarian track, Zelenskyy stressed: “We very much hope that America, the President, and the First Lady will continue to make personal efforts to bring back all the children abducted by Russia.”
On August 25, Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that if talks on Russia’s war against Ukraine fail.
“Yeah, there could be very big consequences, but we’ll see what happens. There might be very big consequences because this is something that has to end,” said Trump.
Zelenskyy announced that Kyiv and Washington will spend the coming week working on a “basic plan” for security guarantees while also testing the waters for possible talks with Moscow.
Earlier, Keith Kellogg arrived in Kyiv to attend Ukraine’s Independence Day events. On the same day, President Zelenskyy decorated him the Order of Merit, First Class, and several senior US lawmakers and officials also received honorary awards in recognition of their support for Ukraine against the Russian war of aggression.
