Ukraine’s strategy for victory is centered on strengthening its position, with one of the key elements being NATO membership and future integration into the Alliance.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who spoke at the “Ukraine-Southeast Europe” summit, an invitation to NATO is the first step toward that goal. He emphasized that such an invitation is not equivalent to membership, but it is a critical move toward reinforcing Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

“We want to receive the first step—an invitation. The Alliance’s invitation is not NATO membership. Of course, it’s better to be a member of NATO,” Zelenskyy stated.

He also underscored the importance of boosting Ukraine’s position immediately, rather than waiting for the war to end or for years to pass.

“Not after the war, not in 10 or 30 years—now. Strengthening our position now will enhance our leverage in future negotiations,” Zelenskyy said.

Addressing skepticism from certain countries regarding Ukraine’s NATO membership during the war, Zelenskyy noted that if they remain skeptical now, they are likely to remain so in the future.

“If they want the war to end, they should support our proposals. The invitation is part of these proposals,” Zelenskyy concluded.
