In a recent interview on October 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy underscored the importance of human lives over territorial losses, stating, “People are more important than land. We will get the land back, but not the people. We live by this law.”

In contrast, Zelenskyy noted that since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, an estimated 650,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded. He expressed the difficulties of fighting against Russia, which he characterized as a regime that relies on “brute force” and displays a flagrant disregard for the lives of its own soldiers.

“There is only one law in Russia: if soldiers don’t advance, they are shot by their own side. Russia has itself killed countless mobilized soldiers out of fear that they might retreat or refuse to attack. Their law counts on brute force, with no regard for lives lost. Russia now has approximately 650,000 casualties both dead and wounded.”

Zelenskyy also pointed on Russia’s reluctance to retrieve the bodies of fallen soldiers from the battlefield, calling it a grim representation of the war: “Their soldiers’ bodies rot in the fields, abandoned where they fell.”

“This is the face of Putin’s war. In the East, they advance by overwhelming us with sheer numbers and using what can only be described as a meat grinder of their own troops.”

Zelenskyy also addressed the complex situation in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces launched preventive strikes against Russian positions.

He added that Russian forces began shelling their own civilians with artillery in the aftermath.

“Our forces are providing food and water to civilians in the region, as these are not soldiers but ordinary people,” Zelenskyy shared.

“And what we are witnessing are Russian civilian casualties from their own artillery. Such is the nature of this war,” he concluded.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pointed on the potential of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help mediate peace talks to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.

In addition, Polish President Andrzej Duda firmly opposed any suggestions of Ukraine making territorial concessions to end the war with Russia.
