Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy does not rule out the possibility of China joining peace talks to end the war in Ukraine, as reported by UNITED24 Media correspondent on February 17.

When asked if Ukraine was considering involving China in peace negotiations—following a meeting in Munich between Ukrainian officials Andrii Yermak and Andrii Sybiha with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi—Zelenskyy responded:

“It’s important for us to engage China and use its influence to pressure Putin to end the war. For the first time, we’re seeing interest from China, and I believe this is largely because global processes are accelerating. We can’t oppose the idea when countries, especially from the Global South, are willing to help Ukraine and push Russia to end the war.”

The President stressed that the meeting with Wang Yi was significant, adding, “This could pave the way for further dialogue at a higher level.”

Zelenskyy emphasized that while Ukraine is ready to include major international players, only those willing to take responsibility for providing security guarantees, assistance, stopping Putin, and investing in Ukraine’s recovery will be part of the talks.

Previously, reports emerged that China could deploy peacekeeping troops to Ukraine to help uphold a negotiated ceasefire in its war with Russia—as long as they operate alongside non-NATO nations like India, a former Chinese colonel suggested, according to South China Morning Post on February 17.
