Answering the questions, Zelenskyy noted that negotiations on security guarantees are ongoing at the working level.

“We discussed this at the team level. Yesterday, together with the US president, we agreed that Ukraine would receive strong security guarantees from the United States. Indeed, this is not forever—the documents currently provide for a 15-year term, with the possibility of extending these security guarantees,” he said.

Zelenskyy explained that he raised the issue of a longer duration for such commitments, pointing to the length of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“I told him that our war has already been going on for almost 15 years. That is why we would very much like the guarantees to be longer. I told him that we would like to consider the possibility of 30, 40, or 50 years. That would then be a historic decision by President Trump. The president said he would think about it,” Zelenskyy added.

Ukrainian President also said he discussed possible next steps with US President Donald Trump in the event that Russia refuses a peace deal and continues its war against Ukraine.

Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine and the United States share a unified position that the war must be ended through diplomacy, alongside sustained pressure on Russia.

“We have no alternative to peace. Together with the Americans, our position is unified: the war must be ended diplomatically, Russia must be pushed, otherwise the war will continue,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that if Russia chooses to continue the war, Ukraine will continue to receive support from the United States and European partners.

“Of course, if the war continues, the Americans will continue, together with the Europeans, to help Ukraine, because we are defending ourselves in this war, we are fighting, we are not the aggressor,” Zelenskyy said.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the proposed 20-point peace framework is about “90% agreed” after high-level talks with US President Donald Trump, while making clear that Ukraine’s stance on its territory is non-negotiable, describing it as “the land of our nation” and stressing that any referendum on the issue cannot be hurried or held amid ongoing fighting.
