Zelenskyy: Russia Should Have No Opportunity to Launch a Third Aggression Against Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday he had not yet received a formal reaction from the United States to Ukraine’s latest proposals for a peace plan and was preparing to begin talks with US counterparts later in the day during his remarks to the press on December 14.
Zelenskyy said he had “heard a few messages” and that, through his negotiating team, he had received “all the signals” and would be ready for a dialogue “that will start today,” describing December 14.

“From my point of view, the most important thing is that the plan be as fair as possible, first and foremost for Ukraine, because Russia started the war. It is important that the plan be such that, after it is signed, Russia has no opportunity to start yet another, a third, aggression against the Ukrainian people,” Zelenskyy said.
Asked whether there were any signals from the Americans that the Russian leader was ready for compromise, Zelenskyy said it looked “meaningless” to discuss any points of the plan while “they repeat on all platforms about achieving all goals in the war with Ukraine.”

On a possible compromise, Zelenskyy said he believed Russia “must” move toward compromise if Washington and other partners increase pressure and if the United States wants to end the war “as they demonstrate today at a high level.”
He also said Ukraine’s negotiating group had expanded after Jared Kushner joined the US side and an economic component was added, saying talks now cover not only a 20-point framework plan but also an economic plan for Ukraine, with the economy minister and Ukraine’s prime minister joining the group and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Ihnatov added on security issues.
Earlier, it was reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was working with the United States and the European Union on a 20-point peace framework focused on security guarantees and reconstruction, while rejecting any deal that involves giving up territory.
