Zelenskyy Talks Zero-Tariff US Trade Deal to Support Ukraine’s Recovery

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is discussing a potential free-trade agreement with the US that would introduce zero tariffs as part of a broader package aimed at supporting Ukraine’s recovery after the war, Bloomberg reported on January 9.
The arrangement would apply to some of Ukraine’s more industrialized regions and could help attract investment and businesses, Zelenskyy told Bloomberg in a phone interview, saying it would give the country “very serious cards” compared with neighboring states.

He added that he would need to discuss the details directly with US President Donald Trump and described the concept as an additional economic security guarantee for Ukraine.
Axios reported that Zelenskyy may meet President Donald Trump in the US or on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, which the forum says will run from January 19 to 23, as Zelenskyy’s team continues discussions with Trump’s envoys on a US-backed security guarantees document and a broader peace framework.
Earlier, it was reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is close to finalizing a bilateral security-guarantees agreement with the United States alongside other framework arrangements involving European partners.
