Zelenskyy to Tucker Carlson: “He Needs to Stop Working for Putin” and Spreading Russian Propaganda

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused American political commentator Tucker Carlson of spreading pro-Russian narratives, stating that Carlson deliberately promotes Kremlin propaganda and misleads the public, Zelenskyy said during an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan on February 4.

Zelenskyy criticized Carlson’s stance on Ukraine, suggesting that the journalist lacks a deep understanding of the country’s struggle.

“And frankly, I think this journalist—what’s his name again? Sorry, I don’t remember. Tucker? I think he needs to understand Ukraine more deeply. He needs to stop working for Putin and, to be honest, stop kissing his ass,” Zelenskyy said.

He emphasized the human cost of war, questioning whether Carlson had ever experienced personal loss.

“Has he ever in his life lost someone close to him? A loved one? I don’t know what kind of family he has, but I sincerely wish them peace and tranquility, and that they never experience such loss. But he needs to have his own perspective, his own understanding, and realize that he likely has influence over a large number of people—and he is simply disinforming them.”

Zelenskyy also accused Carlson of echoing Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s talking points on religion and Ukraine’s leadership.

“There must be a Ukrainian church under Ukrainian jurisdiction. Language has nothing to do with it. And all the rest is lies. It’s Putin’s narrative. Putin’s narrative about the Moscow Patriarchate, about the Russian Church. Putin’s narrative about elections, about my alleged illegitimacy, about dictatorship,” he said.

The Ukrainian president pointed out the irony of Putin, who has ruled Russia for decades, questioning the legitimacy of Ukraine’s leadership.

“This is coming from a man who has been in power for 30 years. A bloodthirsty dictator, a murderer who has violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity and not only that—he has destroyed entire nations. And yet he talks about illegitimacy?”

According to Zelenskyy, Carlson is serving the Kremlin’s interests by amplifying these narratives.

“And unfortunately, this blogger or journalist, whatever he wants to call himself, is simply repeating Putin’s words. And what does he want? He is working for Putin in this way. Because he wants to drag me down to Putin’s level. That’s what he wants.”

Earlier, during the same interview, the Ukrainian President stated that he would be willing to sit down with Putin if it were the only way to achieve peace and prevent further loss of Ukrainian lives.
