Russian Casualties Estimated at 300,000–350,000 Dead and Over 600,000 Wounded, Zelenskyy Says

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an interview with Piers Morgan on February 4, provided estimates on Russian and Ukrainian casualties since the start of the full-scale invasion.
According to Zelenskyy, Russian forces have suffered approximately 300,000–350,000 deaths, with an additional 50,000 to 70,000 missing in action. He further estimated that 600,000–700,000 Russian soldiers have been wounded, pointing to the high mortality rate on the battlefield due to Russia’s weaker field medicine.
"The ratio is one to two for the wounded because their field medicine is weaker than ours, and they do not bring people who are wounded back. If the person is wounded on the battlefield, they stay there," Zelenskyy explained. "So the estimates are approximately like that, but they're very close to reality."
President Zelenskyy acknowledged the significant toll on Ukraine’s military, reporting 45,100 soldiers killed. He also noted 390,000 cases of wounded personnel, clarifying that this figure includes instances where soldiers were injured, treated, and later returned to combat.
"Here, let me be precise—the number of cases of wounded is bigger than the number of actual wounded people because some have been wounded, returned to battle, and then been wounded again," he said. "So the number of wounded cases is 390,000, but the actual number of people is less."
Previously, in an interview with Piers Morgan, Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that while Ukraine cannot reclaim all territories militarily without massive losses, it remains committed to doing so over time. He emphasized the need to avoid unnecessary casualties and stated he would meet Vladimir Putin if it were the only way to achieve peace.
