Zelenskyy: Ukraine Will Not Accept a “Frozen Conflict,” Urges Strong International Security Guarantees

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine will not accept a “frozen conflict,” warning that such an outcome would merely postpone further hostilities during a joint press conference with President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa on April 24.
He also outlined the importance of achieving a durable and globally supported resolution to the war.
“A frozen conflict that could reignite into war within a year or two is not a solution,” Zelenskyy remarked. “We require strong and influential figures among our security guarantors – those unafraid of Russia and capable of exerting meaningful influence over its actions.”
The Ukrainian President highlighted that the United States and leading European nations should be among those guarantors, as they possess the capacity to ensure accountability and promote long-term stability.
Zelenskyy also reiterated that Ukraine has already committed to a comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire as a prerequisite for initiating peace negotiations. He noted, however, that the Russian Federation has yet to demonstrate a comparable willingness to engage constructively in the process.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the early termination of his visit to South Africa in response to a large-scale Russian missile and drone assault on Ukraine, which resulted in numerous injuries and the deaths of at least nine individuals in Kyiv.
