Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk on August 4, where he met with troops from the 17th Separate Motorized Infantry Battalion of the 57th Brigade named after Koshovyi Otaman Kost Hordiyenko.

During his frontline visit, the president held discussions with unit commanders about the evolving battlefield situation, current defense efforts, and operational dynamics in the Vovchansk sector. Particular attention was given to the supply and use of drones, recruitment efforts, and the issue of direct funding for combat brigades.

Ukrainian forces stationed near Vovchansk have reported confirmed sightings of foreign mercenaries fighting on the side of Russian troops.

According to Zelenskyy, soldiers on this axis observed participation by individuals from China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and several African countries.

“We will respond,” Zelenskyy stated, referencing the presence of these foreign combatants in a message shared following his visit. “It is an honor for me to be here. Thank you for fighting, for serving your state, the Ukrainian people, and for supporting one another,” he added.

The president also awarded state honors to several defenders for their service on the front line.

Earlier, it was confirmed that Russian forces advanced north of Vovchansk, with troops entering the town and ongoing battles requiring intensified defensive efforts by Ukrainian forces.
