Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko is set to leave office after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a broad government reshuffle, saying Ukraine needs an updated Cabinet to implement a renewed political strategy. The changes are also expected to include the leadership of several law enforcement agencies.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on July 12 that Ukraine will overhaul its government, confirming that Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko will leave her current position after one year in office.

Following a meeting with Svyrydenko, Zelenskyy said the government requires renewal to support what he described as an updated political strategy for the country.

“We determined that these changes require the renewal of the Cabinet of Ministers. I am grateful to Yulia for her clear, stable, and effective work as Prime Minister, for her years of productive service on Ukraine’s team, and I have proposed that she lead a new important area in relations with a key partner,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The president did not specify which position Svyrydenko had been offered, but said he expects Parliament to approve the necessary personnel changes. He also announced upcoming changes among the heads of Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies without providing additional details.

Svyrydenko later confirmed she would step down as prime minister and continue serving in another role.

“I am grateful to the President for his trust and for the high assessment of our team’s work. I am proud to have had the honor of leading the Government during the most difficult period in Ukraine’s modern history,” she wrote.

She added that she is “ready to continue serving the Ukrainian state and carrying out tasks aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s position, protecting national interests, and bringing a just peace closer.”

Under Ukrainian law, the resignation of the prime minister results in the resignation of the entire Cabinet, which remains in office in a caretaker capacity until a new government is approved.

Svyrydenko became prime minister in July 2025 after previously serving as first deputy prime minister and economy minister. Her government prioritized expanding Ukraine’s domestic defense production, strengthening the economy, and maintaining state resilience during Russia’s full-scale invasion.
